HDC NEWS ITEM - January 2010
Gerry Davidson is the new Hockey Development board member and can be reached at hockeydevelopment@blackfoothockey.com.
There is also a Hockey Development Committee that can always use your help. Contact the HDC Director.

As part of the development of our coaches, every team in Blackfoot has been offered the opportunity to participate in the coach mentor program.

This program allows the team to have an instructor from the National Sports Academy / Calgary Hockey Development ("CHD") attend a practice and assist the coaches with establishing drills, running an efficient practice or whatever area the coach would like some guidance.

Anyone interested in joining the Hockey Development Committee is welcome to attend the committee meetings.

TEAM RULES - Sample

Coaches - here is a sample of team rules you may want to implement on YOUR team.

  1. Safety first. Always!!!
  2. Respect other players, parents, spectators, referees, team-mates, coaches, yourself and the game of hockey.
  3. Be prepared and on time. Dressed and ready to go on to the ice 15 minutes before ice time (practices and games).
  4. Attend all practices possible and be attentive and willing to learn. No horseplay on the ice. This is a distraction to the coaches and to the other players on the team. If you misbehave you will be sent off the ice.
  5. Call if you are going to be late or absent for a game or practice in advance (Coach’s phone number).
  6. Work together as a TEAM.
  7. Be positive in your attitude and comments.
  8. Be responsible for yourself and your actions.
  9. Set goals and try and achieve them (short term and long term).
  10. Have FUN, learn, develop, get fit and try your hardest always!

Seeding Round and Regular Season

The first half of the season is the Seeding Round where teams play to determine if they are in the correct division in their category. Adjustments are made at the "Reseeding Meeting" to reseed teams for the Regular Season. The Regular Season is where teams play for bragging rights - every team makes the playoffs.
